Processing can take up to 10 business days, and the official portal advises applying about two months ahead and waiting for approval before buying flights. Do I need a yellow fever vaccine?

Brazil does not require proof of yellow fever vaccination to enter the country. The CDC and the World Health Organization do not recommend the vaccine for trips limited to Recife and the coast of Pernambuco, while Brazil's own health ministry has recommended it nationwide since 2020. If your trip extends to other regions of Brazil, the vaccine is recommended and should be taken at least ten days before travel.

Some countries ask travelers who have been in Brazil for a vaccination certificate. If you continue elsewhere afterwards, check with that country's consulate.

When is low tide at Praia dos Carneiros?

The natural pools at Praia dos Carneiros only form at low tide, and in December 2026 the daytime windows run from 11:20 on the 26th to 16:01 on the 31st. The Costa dos Corais management plan allows visits to the pools when the tide is under 0.7 meters, so the widest windows of the event fall on December 26, 27 and 28.

Step 05

Is lodging included in the ticket?

No. No Réveillon Carneiros ticket includes lodging, flights or transfers. Those are booked separately, through the official partners Injoy Travel and Dmand Concierge. Praia dos Carneiros and the town of Tamandaré have guesthouses, flats, apartments and rental homes, supply is limited, and New Year's is the busiest week of the year on this destination.

Step 06

What should I know before flying to Carneiros?

December and January are the driest stretch of the year on the southern coast of Pernambuco, with highs around 30 °C (86 °F) and a UV index that reads Extreme. Tamandaré has no bank branch, Pix runs on a Brazilian bank account, outlets are 220V on the Brazilian type N plug, and a local prepaid SIM requires a Brazilian tax ID.

Weather

Highs around 30 °C (86 °F), lows around 24 °C (75 °F), sea at about 28 °C (82 °F). December and January are the driest stretch of the year on this coast, with short showers rather than all-day rain.

Sun

The sun sits high here, and the days are long. Sunscreen before you head out, a hat, and a break in the shade between noon and three. Reapply after a swim.

Tide

The natural pools only exist at low tide. In 2026 the widest midday windows fall on December 26, 27 and 28. Check the Tamandaré tide table before you plan a beach day.

Money

Cards are accepted almost everywhere, but Tamandaré has no bank branch. Arrive with cash. Pix runs on a Brazilian bank account and isn’t open to visitors. Restaurants usually add a 10% service charge.

Power

Outlets run 220V at 60 Hz and take the Brazilian type N plug, which is its own shape. Your devices are built for 110V, so you need a transformer on top of the adapter.

Power

Outlets run 220V at 60 Hz and take the Brazilian type N plug, which is its own shape. All you need is an adapter.

Phone

A Brazilian prepaid SIM requires a local tax ID. An international eSIM is the practical route. Expect 4G on this stretch of coast, not 5G.

Language

Portuguese is the local language. English is common at the event and in hotels, less common beyond them.

Emergencies: 192 / 193 / 190

What else is there beyond the event?

Praia dos Carneiros sits inside the Costa dos Corais reserve, Brazil's largest marine protected area. On the sand is the chapel of São Benedito; in the water, the natural pools; and the Rio Formoso meets the Atlantic at the edge of the beach. Porto de Galinhas is an hour away by road, and Recife and Olinda an hour and a half away.

On the sand

The chapel of São Benedito

Colonial, built on the beach itself, where the river meets the sea. Pernambuco opened its heritage listing in 2026, and it is the image most people have seen of Carneiros before they arrive.

In the water

The natural pools

Warm, shallow and clear, held by the reefs offshore at low tide. Boats leave from the beach. The reefs are living coral: look without touching.

Upriver

Rio Formoso

Three rivers reach the Atlantic here. The catamaran trip runs about two hours, through the mangroves and past the sandbanks, the chapel and the pools.

An hour north

Porto de Galinhas

More reefs, more pools, and a busier town, in Ipojuca.

Ninety minutes north

Recife and Olinda

The capital and its neighbor, four miles apart. Olinda’s historic center has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1982.
